Domain Name

🧪

We are still working on improving this feature. If you encounter any issues, please contact us.

The domain name of your website is the address that visitors can use to find your website. In this chapter, you will learn how to change the domain name of your website. The settings for your website’s domain name can be found in your website’s control panel, under ‘System’.

Default Domain Name

When you create a website, you are assigned a default domain name. This domain name is a subdomain of the platform on which your website is hosted. The default domain name looks like this:

[slug].docs.kerkcloud.nl

The [slug] is a unique name that you can choose yourself. This name is used to identify your website on the platform. Choose a short and clear name that fits your website.

Custom Domain Name

If you have a custom domain name, you can link it to your website. This has the advantage that visitors can reach your website via your own domain name. However, this requires you to adjust the DNS settings of your domain name. How you do this depends on your domain name provider. You can always ask us for help if you can’t figure it out. We verify your domain name and activate it when the DNS settings are correctly configured. The website will then be accessible via your own domain name.

⚠️

Wait a few hours after adjusting the DNS settings before adding them to your website. It may take some time for the changes to be fully implemented.

Subdomain

If you want to link a subdomain to your website, you can do this by creating a CNAME record. A CNAME record points to another domain name. You can link a subdomain to your website by creating a CNAME record with the following settings:

NameTypeValueTTL
[subdomain]CNAMEdocs.kerkcloud.nl.60s

Root Domain

If you want to link a root domain to your website, you can do this by creating an ALIAS record, or, if not available, an A record. You can create these with the following settings:

NameTypeValueTTL
(empty)ALIASdocs.kerkcloud.nl.60s
(empty)A116.203.227.21660s

You only need to create one of the two records. If your domain name provider supports ALIAS records, we recommend using them. If not, you can create an A record.

Can I use both domain names?

When you link a custom domain name to your website, we automatically redirect the default domain name to your custom domain name. Visitors who use the default domain name will be automatically redirected to your custom domain name.

My custom domain name is no longer accessible

When linking a custom domain name to your website, we check if the DNS is set up correctly. If the DNS settings are not correct, the domain name will not be activated. Therefore, we will only redirect the default domain name once the custom domain name is working.

If your domain name is no longer accessible, your website may no longer be accessible. Unfortunately, this is not something we can easily check, so it may be that your default domain name still points to your custom domain name. In this case, please contact us. In the future, this will be possible via your Kerkcloud account.

How can I revert to the default domain name?

Simply clear the field and save. The default domain name will then become active again. Also, adjust the DNS settings so that your custom domain name no longer points to our platform.
